Mum or dad with concealed weapon unintentionally shoots self while at Arlington ISD faculty, police say

Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a hid weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the parent within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mother or father with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the mum or dad in the leg.

The school had early release and college students have been launched on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

According to police, the mum or dad, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His injury was not critical.

The varsity district mentioned White was inside the building, close to the foyer area, and never in the hallway near students when the gun went off.

Police and school officials said there was no threat made and the mum or dad did not have "malicious intent."

No college students or employees have been injured. The guardian was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Within the two days since the Uvalde mass school capturing, there have been 5 instances in North Texas related to weapons introduced to colleges or threats made.

Arlington parents mentioned their minds immediately thought of the worst once they were notified.

No guardian ever desires there to be a cause for them to get a text message saying their child's faculty is on lockdown.

However since this week's lethal capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't help however assume the worst after they do.

"After I acquired the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, one thing goes to occur.’ I used to be shocked," mother or father Karima Rasheed said.

Whereas most occasions, lockdowns are solely drills college students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, mentioned that knowing what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown different. 

"I began seeing my classmates starting to cry and our teacher obtained a notification on their telephone saying someone was within the constructing," he stated.

Guns are usually not allowed on college property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with stated even when it was a mistake, the timing is simply horrible.

"What are we going to do? They should go to highschool, and obviously, statistically, it's unlikely to happen, but you never need to be the one statistic. What if it's your youngsters?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives across the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve acquired twin six-year-olds that go to a unique Arlington faculty and every time I hear there's a lockdown or a faculty taking pictures, my heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to highschool within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever happened at his school.

"If one thing happened, you’ve bought to run anywhere that’s secure and conceal," she informed her little one.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too recent to speak politics, Mitchell said something must be done now. 

"They need to talk about it, they want to campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, but they don’t need to really go any legal guidelines and do anything," he added.
