Arlington parents said their minds instantly thought of the worst when they were notified.
No mum or dad ever wants there to be a motive for them to get a text message saying their child's college is on lockdown.
But since this week's lethal shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot help but suppose the worst once they do.
"Once I acquired the text message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, one thing is going to occur.’ I was shocked," parent Karima Rasheed said.
While most times, lockdowns are only drills students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that realizing what happened earlier this week made this lockdown totally different.
"I began seeing my classmates starting to cry and our instructor obtained a notification on their telephone saying someone was within the building," he said.
Weapons are usually not allowed on school property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with mentioned even if it was a mistake, the timing is simply horrible.
"What are we going to do? They should go to highschool, and clearly, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, however you by no means want to be the one statistic. What if it is your kids?" Matthew Mitchell mentioned.
Mitchell lives throughout the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington college.
"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve received twin six-year-olds that go to a special Arlington faculty and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a college shooting, my heart jumps into my throat," he said.
Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade students at Duff Elementary.
While driving her son to school in the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever happened at his school.
"If one thing happened, you’ve acquired to run anywhere that’s safe and hide," she instructed her youngster.
Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is too fresh to talk politics, Mitchell mentioned one thing must be carried out now.
"They want to discuss it, they wish to marketing campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, however they don’t wish to truly go any legal guidelines and do anything," he added.
