Nashville Public Library launches ‘Freedom to Learn’ marketing campaign

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — It's a matter that's taken hold in Tennessee: books like "Maus" or "Stroll Two Moons" have been pulled from cabinets.

Whereas those books might be banned from some colleges, there's still somewhere else you'll find them.

"Our job is just to ensure that if you need it, it's right here for you," stated Public Info Officer for the Nashville Public Library, Ed Brown.

"'Maus' is all checked out right now," stated Brown. "So we acquired extra copies on order but as quickly as phrase received round about what happened in McMinn County, we received lots of holds."

Those are simply a number of the two million other materials on the Nashville Public Library.

"Lots of people do not need to read these books; they don't need their children to should read these books, or pressured to read these books, and that is advantageous," said Brown. "However there are a lot individuals who do, and we need to be there for the people who do wish to read these supplies."

And if you wish to make your love for these supplies identified, what better manner than together with your library card? The 5,000 restricted edition cards for the campaign say "I read banned books."

"We all watch the TV exhibits that we like; we all watch the completely different sports activities or root for the completely different groups we're part of," said Brown. "Books are no completely different."

The objective is to get the 5,000 library cards within the arms of new sign-ups this month.

"We are not attempting to be a push back — a drive pushing again against these selections — we want to be an alternative to say, if you could not have the ability to get it there... you can get it here," stated Brown.
