The Memorial Day holiday weekend is proving a messy one for a lot of airways, with carriers canceling hundreds of flights worldwide, including hundreds within the U.S. on Monday. 

On Monday, 1,634 flights had been canceled as of 11:52 p.m. ET, according to flight tracking website FlightAware. That adopted roughly 1,640 cancellations on Sunday, 1,500 on Saturday and a pair of,300 on Friday. More than 400 of Monday's cancellations concerned plane scheduled to fly to or from U.S. cities.

Delta Air Strains canceled the most flights among major U.S. airlines, scratching 133 flights on Monday, or 4% of its operations, based on FlightAware. The provider was compelled to cancel more than 400 flights on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday's cancellations have been as a consequence of unhealthy weather and "air traffic control actions," Atlanta-based Delta stated in an email to The Associated Press, noting it is attempting to cancel flights no less than 24 hours in advance of the Memorial Day weekend. Delta informed CBS Information that "around 90%" of its clients who had a cancelled flight Sunday have been rebooked on a flight "later in the day."

Delta introduced on its website on Thursday that from July 1 to Aug. 7, it will scale back service by about 100 day by day departures, primarily in elements of the U.S. and Latin America that Delta frequently serves.

"More than any time in our history, the assorted factors presently impacting our operation — weather and air traffic control, vendor staffing, elevated COVID case charges contributing to higher-than-planned unscheduled absences in some work groups — are leading to an operation that is not constantly up to the standards Delta has set for the industry in recent years," said Delta's Chief Buyer Experience Officer Allison Ausband in a put up.
