I'm in South Africa. Watching your video to gain driving confidence. 💪🏼
They taught me right off the start to let the clutch off until i can feel the car shaking a bit, the engine's note dips a bit too, release the brake and give just a little bit of throttle. From then on it's easy for me to control it.
You don't really need to release the clutch too much, if you keep it on the biting point the car usually has enough power to stand still, or to roll just a little bit.
They made me practice in a hilly residential area, so i could take my time and learn without problems
I got stuck on a hill and found these steps very useful thanks.
I didn’t learn this until after several lessons course I wasn’t really ready but when I tried it,I did it first try.
Just buy an automatic
Lot of instructors are not very technical mindset .
Simply thing at hill up do not remove foot from gas and then change gear and car will never stall
Just had my first driving lesson. I am so bad with the clutch I keep releasing too quick. My instructor told me about the 3 second rule. Hopefully I do better next time
QUESTION : if i have to come to a full stop why cant i just use the break pedal then when im ready to move do the clutch control with a bit of gas ?
it seems like an awful waste of fuel to hover in position with just the clutch and the gas pedal for a prolonged time.
ALSO i would like to ask if i would damage my car when using clutch control ?
The driving test has changed massively since I passed 11yrs ago
I swear holding the clutch at the biting point for too long is bad for the clutch as it will start to burn it? I normally just have my foot on the brake and then lift it to the biting point before I take my foot off the brake and that prevents rolling back then quickly move onto the accelerator
Just get a car with hill assist, saves you a lot of problems 👍
Hills are scary, rolling backwards for me is the worst thing. I've mastered hills a little bit but with the hand break. On my last driving lesson my instructor taught me this technique, at first I thought she held the break for me as I lifted the clutch and applied gas. I said to her "thanks for holding the break" she said "I didn't do anything, you did it all by yourself". I couldn't believe it!
Got my test on Wednesday and you’re videos are helping so much
I’m from Ireland, but love your videos. I’m so nervous with hills, I’ve been driving nearly a year, still haven’t went for my full test. Thanks for the great videos
My instructor never teaches us to use a handbrake when stopping since so many of his students are capable of doing great without it
so now im confused…is handbrake really necessary? I’m kinda new learner (because of covid my lessons would constantly be stopped halfway) so im decent at hills but I didn’t know you could use a handbrake for hills…what im trying to say is should I use a handbrake at hills
This is a brilliant way of explaining how to clutch control a car on a hill however I would advise CAR OWNERS to use the hand break as what Pin did wears the clutch quite a lot, if you keep the car at the biting point for more than 2-3s (on a hill) it will start heating up your flywheel and start shaving the clutch off… Decently expensive repair! Hand break up, biting point, release hand break and go!
Im not even a learner and I still struggle with clutch control in my own car😂
Top tip: drive an automatic and forget all this hassle 🤣
isn't it will burnt the clutch?
When you stand like this just keep your foot on the brake, start raising the clutch pedal and when you hit the biting point or hearing the rev going up you let the clutch go and slowly let go off the clutch, I have never used my handbrake in any situation in the traffic, though I live in Sweden and we don't learn do use our handbrakes this way
I passed my test today but ill still be watching the videos 😀
I highly, highly recommend pulling the handbrake for newer drivers. I live in an extremely hilly area so I had to do a lot of this. Since you quickly roll back the second you take your foot off the brake, you panic and likely bring the clutch up too far. Once your comfortable you can hold the clutch and the gas on a steep give-way hill to keep the car from rolling back.
Just passed my test with 4 minors. Your videos were really helpful. Advice I would give to learner, stay calm and always give your best driving even if you think you may have failed. Good luck everyone
Completely irrelevant but when ever i see him drive i always think how is that comfortable for him leaning forwared like that while he drives 😂
I've been driving for over 10 years and still watch these videos for some reason.
I have passed my test and im generally confident I HATE starting on a hill now, always rev the engine massively or stall. I'm instantly panicking from a starting position now.
Thanks so much for this video 👍🏻
This is so awesome. I would have been hella sarcastic exaggerated, and mid tempered as the teacher. Nicely executed.
That hill start method will absolutely cook the clutch and doing that habitually will prematurely wear down the clutch to the point of failure. A clutch can last 200k miles with thoughtful clutch use. You will never catch me driving with my clutch half engaged and the car stopped for more than a split second. I would have dealt with that hill by approaching up to it in 1st gear with the clutch fully to the floor, if it was clear I would take off just as the car stopped, but if I had to wait, I would use the foot brake to hold the car, set the parking brake with the release button pushed and held, then take my foot off the brake and wait for an opportunity with the clutch held down and still in 1st. A split second before I took off I would add some gas and bring the clutch to the bite point and release the parking brake once I was there, and take off from there with gradual clutch release and plenty of gas. You are absolutely right about shifting at a higher rpm to build speed uphill.
Should retitle it how best to burn the clutch out if you are relying on the clutch to stop the car from rolling back it's a fast way to burn it out plus if u have to take it to 3500rpm before changing gear then there's something wrong with the car go get it checked u was on a tiny slope not a steep hill so what you are trying to teach is irrelevant to the title of the video
On a hill like that i'd put the handbrake on if i was waiting for more than 3 seconds, it feels awful on my foot when the clutch vibrates because of friction when holding. Especially for several seconds.
As someone who learned to drive in a diesel car, after 2 months of driving a petrol car, i still found hill starts kinda awkward since you have to press the acceleration a lot more while lifting the clutch, so most of the time i either stall or i m going over 3k rpm
I was taught proper clutch control when I had my lessons, I think it should be mandatory.
Some car's have hill assist.
I have my own technique, foot on brake and gas pedal at same time ( slide my foot just enough to rev the engine) and clutch at bite point (heel an toe)
Works great for me in the past 2 years.
Thanks so much Pin but do you mind making a video about points on provisional and full driving licence
Yes this works, but I don't like sitting there on the clutch wearing it out like that, I'd definitely have pulled the handbrake there
I hate hills I hate hills they make me so nervous
Hi
Yestrday i have passed my driving test in first time i watched these videos are vry vry helpfull 😍😍
I'm pleased to say I finally passed my Driving Test today after years of hard work and perseverance and it feels incredible. Also shout out to Brandon"s tip for talking to yourself on the driving test it really worked thanks DGN 👍🏼
What I normally do when I need to do a hill start is using the footbreak, lift the clutch just below the biting point, release the foot break and give more gas than usual while bringing the clutch at the biting point and hold it there.
What I would like to add, which Pin forgot to, is that you need the best driving footwear aka drivermedics in order to have this sort of clutch control.
Hello! I want to suggest you to come in Bangladesh. You will see the best drivers of Universe!😂
