The coverage, disclosed in leaked emails Musk sent to Tesla's executive employees Tuesday, was first reported by electrical car news site Electrek.
"Anybody who needs to do distant work have to be in the office for a minimal (and I imply *minimal*) of 40 hours per week or depart Tesla. That is less than we ask of manufacturing facility staff," Musk wrote, including that the workplace should be the employee's major workplace where the opposite employees they usually interact with are primarily based — "not a remote branch office unrelated to the job duties."
Musk stated he would personally assessment any request for exemption from the policy, but that for probably the most part, "When you don't present up, we will assume you will have resigned."
Tesla (TSLA) didn't respond to a request for comment on the policy change, but Musk appeared to confirm it in a tweet of his own early Wednesday when asked on Twitter, "Hey Elon...any additional comment to people who suppose coming into work is an antiquated concept?" Musk replied: "They should fake to work some other place."The policy is totally at odds with that of the other tech firm Musk is making an attempt to buy, Twitter (TWTR), which has beforehand introduced staff can continue to earn a living from home "without end" if they prefer. "Wherever you feel most efficient and artistic is where you'll work and that includes working from home full-time eternally," CEO Parag Agrawal wrote in a notice to Twitter's practically 100,000 workers in March, just before Musk's interest in proudly owning the social media platform was disclosed.At Tesla, however, that will not be the case. Surveys present the vast majority of office workers favor the choice to do business from home. Since reopening places of work following Covid-19 shutdowns, many companies past Twitter have introduced elevated flexibility for workers who need to work remotely, partly as a method to retain or appeal to talent in a very tight labor market.
