Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech giant stated its iconic music participant has been changed by different devices, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising, said: "Immediately, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We have integrated an unbelievable music expertise throughout all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with assist for spatial audio - there's no better way to get pleasure from, uncover, and expertise music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the original iPod and it was the first MP3 player that would maintain 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented an entire new category of digital music participant that permits you to put your whole music collection in your pocket and hearken to it wherever you go," he stated on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music will never be the same again."

Similar MP3 gamers launched by Microsoft and Sony didn't have the same success as the iPod.

Apple has released five versions of its music participant - the Classic, Contact, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The company has been slowly killing its iPod vary lately, with cell phone technology enabling clients to hearken to music providers on their telephones.

In 2014, the basic click on wheel model was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano have been killed off three years later.

The seventh-generation iPod touch was the only model nonetheless on sale immediately.

With out the iPod, there would never have been an iPhone or iPod, in accordance with its inventor Tony Fadell.
