BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to take part in a mass faculty shooting that would have included a bombing at Berkeley High Faculty, police say. 

The teen was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division stated in a press release. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no faculty that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing harmful system supplies and threatening to commit a criminal offense which is able to result in loss of life or nice bodily damage.

Police stated they received a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a shooting that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police did not say if the teenager was a student at Berkeley Excessive Faculty.

Upon executing the search warrant, police mentioned they found parts to explosives and assault rifles, a number of knives, and electronic gadgets that might be used to create additional weapons. 

At that time, a warrant was obtained for the teen's arrest.

"School security stays a excessive priority for the department," police said in a press release. 

Particulars on whom the teenager was making an attempt to recruit weren't disclosed. Police stated this case remains underneath investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens instructed the varsity's group that the district was in close contact with police during this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teen's weapon components, the district relied on police expertise to assess any potential ongoing threat to its schools. The district communicated with police on the student's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions throughout this era, we alerted our administrative and security employees about this investigation and, as is our standard apply, maintained close contact with our BPD College Useful resource Officer on the Berkeley High Faculty campus," Stephens wrote. "Throughout the investigation interval, we had been assured that this individual did not pose an instantaneous threat to the Berkeley High School neighborhood."

The district is conducting their own investigation on this matter. 

The district may pursue disciplinary motion against the scholar.
